These tracks continue to influence producers across genres including electronic dance music, drum and bass, techno, breakbeat, rock and hip hop.

For DJs, collectors and music enthusiasts, these songs demonstrate how innovative production, memorable hooks and powerful live performances can create music with lasting appeal across generations.

The History of The Prodigy

The Prodigy were formed in 1990 in Braintree, Essex, by producer and songwriter Liam Howlett. After leaving the rave collective Cut to Kill, Howlett began creating tracks that combined breakbeats, hardcore, techno and hip hop influences.

The original line up featured Liam Howlett alongside dancers Keith Flint and Leeroy Thornhill, with MC Maxim Reality joining shortly afterwards. Initially known for their energetic live performances, the group quickly became one of the defining acts of the UK rave movement.

Their debut album Experience in 1992 became one of the landmark albums of the hardcore rave era. They followed this with Music for the Jilted Generation, which cemented their reputation as pioneers of electronic music.

Global superstardom arrived in 1997 with The Fat of the Land, featuring Firestarter, Breathe and Smack My Bitch Up. The album reached number one in numerous countries and became one of the best selling electronic albums ever released.

The band continued releasing successful albums including:

  • Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned
  • Invaders Must Die
  • The Day Is My Enemy
  • No Tourists

Following the tragic passing of Keith Flint in 2019, Liam Howlett and Maxim have continued to celebrate The Prodigy’s legacy through live performances while honouring Flint’s enormous contribution to electronic music.
